Since
graduating from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Communications in 2005, I have immersed myself into learning all
aspects of Graphic Design.
I have focused on digital graphics for
online platforms such as web page design, online advertisements, email
campaigns, online publications and most recently, UX design.
Print
design is something that is sadly becoming less popular, but I still
get so excited when I get to hold something in my hands that I created.
From a piece as small as a business card, to a 300 page catalog, there
is no challenge too big or small that I can't handle.
One skill
that I really enjoy is the art of illustration. My first job allowed me
to design toys and the packaging for each product. That time during the
beginning of my career was very challenging, but also rewarding. I
learned a lot about myself and my ability to face challenges head on and
succeed.
With the various skills that I have acquired over the
years, I realized that I have the proven ability to design and execute
marketing collateral for various companies. However, I wanted to learn
more. I was determined to educate myself on marketing all of these
pieces I had created. After all, adding more skills to one's tool belt
is never a bad idea. So, I participated in 3 continuing education
courses at Harvard University. I earned certificates of achievement in
Marketing Strategy, Digital Marketing and Leadership Communications.
The
knowledge that I gained from continuing education in marketing allowed
me to have a different perspective on my design as a whole. I was left
wondering to myself, how can I make my designs better and focus them
directly on each audience that I was targeting. I have since seen my
approach to design in a whole new manner and it has truly allowed me to
better my work as a designer.
I am at the point in my career
where I would like to take on new challenges and take on clients from
various aspects of business. As a designer, it is important to switch
things up and break away from a comfortable day to day job. Just like in
marketing, if you become stagnant, you will not allow yourself to grow
and thrive.
